Description: Night view of Mount Ngauruhoe erupting, taken by G B Scott, about 500 yards from the summit, on the 22nd of September, 1954. Other - Published in the Evening Post on 4 October 1954 Caption - Evening Post caption reads: "Spectacular night picture of Ngauruhoe in action taken recently by Mr G Scott, of Auckland. Mr Scott was camped on a saddle about 500 yards from the summit when the fireworks, heralded by a tremendous detonation, began. He took this two-second exposure as hundreds of re-hot rocks went shooting from the crater and the fiery lava began to slide down the mountainside."
