Description

Indenture is dated 20th March 1840. It is signed by William Charles Wentworth and John Jones, and documents the apportioning of "six undivided eighteenth" shares in the land as transacted under the main Wentworth Jones indenture (15 February 1840) for the 'purchase' of the South Island.

Also includes a transcription of the indenture made by Peter Myers in 2020.

The Library holds the first indenture of 15 February 1840 at Library reference MSO-Papers-4947.

It is possible that the indenture came to donor's father through his ancestor Bennett Frederick Boyd Myers, who was involved in whaling in Australia.
