Date: 1943 - 1944

From: Allen, John Gerald, 1916-1997 :[Eight original cartoons from the Pacific campaign, 1943-1944.]

Reference: A-352-048

Description: Shows what appears to be a collapsing structure in a storm. In the background a weather balloon is tethered to two guns? to prevent its being blown away. In the foreground a female soldier with the letters 'NZ FANY' printed on her lapel holds a smoking bomb behind her back with her left hand while she offers her right hand for a handshake to a worried-looking captain who holds an umbrella from which drops of rain drip down the woman's neck. The text 'Entente Cordiale' suggests a meeting between warring factions with an intention to ameliorate the situation. The cartoon appears to be poking fun at aspects of army life. The faces are clearly caricatures of real people but we do not know who they are. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s). Physical Description: Ink and watercolour on thin card, 255 x 355 mm
