Comprises mainly papers, photographs, correspondence, log books and ephemera relating to Piper’s participation in World War Two in the 1940s and later commemorations. Piper was stationed in Green Islands and New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Also includes: photographs of tramping and mountaineering in New Zealand in the 1940s and 1950; and papers relating to Piper’s political activities, particularly with the Victoria University Socialist Club and the New Zealand Student Labour Federation. Includes copies of his Security Intelligence Service records.

Arrangement: Originally in folders annotated by the depositor. Most of the folders were in two boxes and folders numbered 43 and 44 were loose. Some photographs and the negatives were in envelopes within the folders. Five photographic prints arrived separately.

Arrangement: Originally folded in half, and housed in an annotated folder numbered "23". Came to the Library with one other folder and two boxes of folders. Processing information: Housed separately for conservation reasons. This photographic print was unfolded by conservation staff. The Unit ID changed to accomodate the size and storage difference.
