Copy of the joint submission to the Admiralty for a voyage by Duperrey and Dumont d’Urville, which became the 1822-1825 circumnavigation on the ship 'Coquille'.

The document comprises three sections: the first section being the four-page "Projet"; the second is a seven-page letter by the new minister of the navy, Gaspard de Clermont-Tonnerre, who provides instructions and recommendations; the third section, occupying the remaining seventeen pages, is "Instructions donnees par let depot des Plans & Carte de la Marine".

Accompanied by the French certificate of exportation issued by the Ministere of Culture Communication.

In October 1821, Duperrey along with his colleague Jules Sebastatien Cesar Dumont d'Urville, presented a plan for a proposed scientific voyage under his command.

Duperrey had sailed with Louis de Freycinet on previous voyages.

Provenance: Originally from the Freycinet family, whose papers were dispersed in the 1970s and 1980s. The manuscript belonged to French explorer Louis de Freycinet (1779-1841).

Purchased by Maggs in early 2019 through the French book trade. The manuscript was previously in a French private collection.
