Typescript transcription of the World War One diary of William Harray (1887-1947) for the period 29 July 1916 to 16 April 1919, transcribed by William Bruce and Jocelyn Margaret Harray, 2000.

Volume includes reproduction of portrait of Harray on frontispiece and appended fascimilies of military certification.

Diary describes the sea voyage on the 'Ulimaroa' from Wellington to Plymouth, training camp on Salisbury Plain, then life in the New Zealand Camp in Etaples, France. The diarist goes on to detail being wounded in France and consequent hospitalisation in Walton, England. Following resumption of military training at Codford, a return to the front in Pont de Nieppe, France.

Harray worked in a signals unit on the front line. Survived the end of the war through to the battle of Le Quesnoy. Then marched and travelled by railway to Cologne, Germany. From there travelled by railway to Le Harve and shipped back to Weymouth, England. Left Southampton on the 'Willochra' on 8 March 1919 and arrived in Wellington on 16 April 1919.
