- Description
A set of instrumental scores used by Prince Tui Teka's band from its formation in the early 1970s through to the 1980s. The scores are handwritten and for the most part grouped in separate folios for bass, drums, guitar, piano, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. The repertoire includes popular songs such as ‘For the life of me’, ‘Save the last dance’, ‘Il silencio’, ‘My ding a ling’, ‘Before the next teardrop falls’, and ‘Only you’, as well as Māori waiata (e.g., 'Hoki mai'), cabaret items ('The stripper'), and the Indonesian song ‘Mimpi Sedih’, the melody of which was later used for ‘E ipo’. There is also several part arrangements for 'E ipo' specifically. The names of some of arrangers are noted on the charts, including Terrence Eldon, Jimmie Sloggett, and Ron Nairn. The charts are also annotated with cues, expression directions, and other comments.
Also includes a lyric sheet in Māori (beginning "Ka haere hoki au ki a Hone Kapa") in the piano folio; some annotated posters, in the drums folio; and a newspaper clipping and published book on guitar chords, in the trumpet folio.
