- Description
A French barracks on a hill between Papeete and Point Venus. The ship Harpley can be seen anchored off shore. Natives fishing in outrigger canoes, one man pulling his canoe ashore. A European man rides along the shore on horseback. The artist has added in pencil: 'The natives charged up the steep hill' and marked the spot with an X. They have also inscribed 'Ahoni means "One Tree Hill" in Kanaka language'.
