Description

A view of the top point of Tahiti-nui, called Point Venus, at the tip of Matavai Bay. The artist has added 'Where Capt. Cook landed in 1768 [1769]. Ship Harpley.' It shows a French fort and soldiers. One of the soldiers stands with the man identified as the Captain. A large stone left by Cook is also seen. A more modern memorial was erected by the French in 1901.

Page not numbered as the rest are, and dated as one year later - this is likely to be an error.
