Various figures standing on the shore, mostly women in colourful clothes. The island of Tahiti-iti (or Tai'arapū) is prominent in the near distance. Men are fishing in canoes. Here, the two European men are identified in faint pencil: 'Capt [?]', who wears a sash across his coat, and 'American boat-builder'.
