Description

Transparencies of concrete construction in New Zealand, taken by Geoffrey Thornton or Jocelyn Thornton. Each slide mount is annotated with the name or brief description, and/or the location, of the concrete structure. Dates and photographer name are sometimes annotated.

Buildings/structures and locations annotated on the slide mounts include civic [Christchurch City Council] offices in former Miller's building in Christchurch, "ex Ocean View Hotel now Malone's Irish bar" in Dunedin, St Patrick's Basilica in Dunedin, Dominican priory in Dunedin, Judge Chapman's house [Woodside] in Dunedin, Cargill's Castle in Dunedin, Sacred Heart Church in Dunedin, New Zealand Express (MFL) Building in Dunedin, St Clair Beach sea wall, Dowling Street steps/ramp in Dunedin, ruins, bridge and stables at Glenmark Station, and exterior and interior views of Tauroa homestead in Havelock North.

Arrangement: Transparencies were arranged in a six-row, 43 slides per row, metal case. The case was not labelled; the order appears have begun as largely alphabetical by location, name of building/structure, or name of station/farm; however, arrangement becomes more disordered in the last two rows of the case.

Physical Description: Colour transparencies in plastic slide mounts.

Processing information: Slides have been removed from container and put into archival pockets, following the original order, from left to right and top to bottom.
