- Description
All scenes taken during the opening of Hoani Waititi Marae, the urban pan-tribal marae in Glen Eden, Auckland in April 1980. Frames 1 to 3 show a young woman wearing a headscarf sitting at the side of the entrance to the wharenui (meeting house). Following scenes show a group wearing korowai (cloaks with black twisted thrums) standing behind a row of microphones in front of the wharenui (frame 4); a woman with long plaits is laughing with a small girl on her lap (frames 5 to 8); and numbers of people are sitting watching events (frames 9 to 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
