Description

Diary written in 1888 relating to a sheep farm, with gold diggings, known as Run 204, 'Sowburn', or Hamilton(s) Station, at Hamiltons near Waipiata, Central Otago. Diary records farming activities, weather patterns, swaggers looking for casual work, and wool stock. Persons mentioned frequently in the diary were Barclay, Johnson, Pearson, Mathias, and Mr and Mrs Turnbull.

The farm known as Run 204, 'Sowburn' or Hamilton(s) Station was owned by Captain James Hamilton. The original town, Hamiltons, was gone by the early 1900s.

Provenance: He found the diary about 1963 in an old homestead near Waipiata.
