Description: Transparencies of bridges in New Zealand, taken by Geoffrey Thornton or Jocelyn Thornton. Each slide mount is annotated with the subject (bridge or viaduct name, and/or river/stream name, and/or road name) and location. Dates and photographer name are often but not always annotated. Title supplied by Library. Many slides are not dated. Arrangement: Transparencies were arranged in an upright slide container with two rows of slide drawers, comprising 10 slide drawers in total. Slides were arranged in the container largely alphabetically either by bridge or river name, or location name, and possibly also by type of bridge. Slides were physically arranged from top to bottom and across both rows. The container was labelled as follows: "Concrete 1 - 5 | Stone Arch 6 - 7 | Steel Arch 8 also Brick | Stone Arch Concrete Arch 2 - pt 5 | Concrete Girder pt 5-6". Quantity: 24 colour original transparency/ies. Physical Description: Colour transparencies in plastic and cardboard slide mounts. Processing information: Slides have been removed from container and put into archival pockets, following the original order, from left to right and top to bottom.

Description: Diary written in 1888 relating to a sheep farm, with gold diggings, known as Run 204, 'Sowburn', or Hamilton(s) Station, at Hamiltons near Waipiata, Central Otago. Diary records farming activities, weather patterns, swaggers looking for casual work, and wool stock. Persons mentioned frequently in the diary were Barclay, Johnson, Pearson, Mathias, and Mr and Mrs Turnbull. The farm known as Run 204, 'Sowburn' or Hamilton(s) Station was owned by Captain James Hamilton. The original town, Hamiltons, was gone by the early 1900s. Quantity: 1 volume(s). Physical Description: Letts's Australian Office Diary and Almanac 1888, cloth-bound with green cover, 215 pages, 19.5 cm x 12 cm. Provenance: He found the diary about 1963 in an old homestead near Waipiata. Processing information: One loose torn page has been enclosed in acid free paper and replaced in the back of the book where it was found during processing.

Description: Autograph album of Jessie Thomson Beattie with entries dated from 1900 to 1942. Entries in the album include personal messages, poetry, and quotations mostly of religious themes and sources, including a transliteration of a Chinese doxology and bible quotations, and examples of Chinese, Indian, Tamil, and Ceylonese scripts. Some pages decorated with mounted postage stamps. Sketches include a pair of birds, dated 23 May 1911, sailing boats, dated 1920, watercolour and pencil harbour scene with sailing and row boats, signed Horn, dated 1901, watercolour of people at the seaside with sailing vessels and a windmill, signed I Gresham, dated 1912, and a pen drawing of a bagpiper. Includes a pencil and ink on laid paper sketch with the caption "Bird Island lighthouse St Vincent". Also enclosed is a manuscript letter from Marie Mair to Margaret Beattie, dated 9 May 1994, with details of the provenance and custodial history of the album. Title supplied by Library.
