Description

Three digital files concerning Ernest George Camden's experience on 7 and 8 August 1915 of of the initial attacks in the the Sair Bair offensive (or August offensive) as part of the Allied campaign at Gallipoli during World War I.

Comprises a digital scan of Camden's handwritten poem 'Gallipoli', and two associated text files created by Mike Camden.

One file is a transcription of the poem. The other text file contains biographical details for Ernest George, and his brother Reginald J Camden which were written by Mike Camden in March 1987 and April 2015. The file also contains three scanned images showing: Ernest George and Reg (taken pre-war), Ernest George in army uniform with 'Florrie Barefoot' (future wife of Reg), and Ernest George circa 1920.

The original photograph of Ernest George and Reg Camden taken pre-war is held at library reference PAColl-0310.

Ernest George Camden was in the 12th Australian Infantry Battalion. This battalion was part of the Gallipoli Campaign from April to December 1915, and contributed two companies to the Allied attack on Turkish trenches at Lone Pine in early August 1915.
