- Description
Two young men are sitting on the floor, both with books. Hutton describes them as: 'The end of Mr Cotton's beehouse [?]. The figures are Kerenana (the Maori pronunciation of Clendon) and Reihana (Richard), the former a youth who followed us from the Waimate as a working man, the latter a schoolboy.'
Hutton labels one of the youths in the sketch Heremaia, but in his note on the sketch, names him as Kerenana.
A digitised watercolour portrait of Reihana Pihanga is held in the State Library of New South Wales, in a sketchbook by the Reverend Philip Peters Agnew (ref. number PXA 1662)
