Photograph of a plaster model and painting for Russell Clark's 'The Ear' sculpture designed for the Timaru telephone exchange in collaboration with Stewart Minson; four original drawings by Clark; an abstract study in gouache for 'The Ear', by Clark; sketchbook with New Zealand scenes and anatomical studies.
'The Ear' sculpture was installed in 1957, after architect Stewart Minson asked Russell Clark, to design a sculpture for the new Timaru telephone exchange.

Description: Depicts a street scene in a country town, possibly in colonial times. Three business front the main street: 'D.F. Bean, General Store, Post Office'; 'A. Boyd, Saddlery'; and B.L. Hunter, Paka Puki Timber Mills Ltd.'. Tethered horses line the street, dogs play in a pack and boys walk and talk together, as do groups of men. One woman and girl can be seen looking in the general store window.
