Lithograph (hand-coloured) depicting four bird species including New Zealand fantail (Rhipidura fuliginosa) lithographed by Karl Joseph Brodtmann. Plate 40 from Heinrich Rudolf Schinz, 'Naturgeschichte und Abbildungen der Vögel. Nach den neuesten Systemen bearbeitet', published by Brodtmann's Lithographische Kunstanstalt, Zurich, [1830].
Four bird species depicted at 3/4 actual size, with captions in German, Latin, and French:
"Hahnenschwanz - Fliegenfänger. Muscicapa alector. Gobe-mouche petit coq."
"Der Fächerschwanz. Rhipidura flabellifera. Rhipidure flabelliforme."
"Schieferblauer Drymophile. Drymophila velata. Drimophile voile."
"Weissstirnige Schwalbenstelze. Enicurus velatus. Enicure voile".
Note the Latin binomial 'Rhipidura flabellifera' (Gmelin) is a synonym for South Island Fantail - 'Rhipidura fuliginosa fuliginosa' (Sparrman).
