Description

Lantern slides showing historical sites and scenic views in Italy, Switzerland, France, England, and unidentified countries. The images were taken ca 1950s by unidentified photographers. Some slides have captions written on paper affixed to the glass, that describe the location and subject.

The images include:

- Buildings and ruins in Rome and the Vatican City, such as St Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum. Two images of a middle-aged woman, probably a companion of the photographer, standing in the streets (she also appears in image of Lake Garda).

- Notable places in other Italian cities, including the basilica in Assisi, the Mausoleum of Theodica in Ravenna, the Ponte de Vecchio in Florence, and Genoa Harbour. Also buildings in Venice, including the Rialto, St Mark's Basilica, and the Palazzo Ducale. Six of the images of Venice are in colour.

- Scenes among the ruins of Pompeii, including the forum and the House of the Faun.

- Two street scenes in the Swiss town of Gruyeres; grape vines near Geneva; and two images of the river running through the French town of Annecy, one showing the Palais de l'Isle.

- The front gate of Hampton Court, near London.
