Vera Burnside was the only daughter of Adam and Jane King who farmed near Balclutha. She had three brothers. She attended Stoney Creek School until age 14 and then helped her mother at home on the farm. In 1928 Vera married Thomas Burnside, an Irishman. They then moved onto a farm at Pukekoma - they had five children. Throughout her life Vera has been involved in many community activities - in particular the Women's Division of Federated Farmers and the Presbyterian Church. Her children continued involvement in community activities. Vera now resides in Holmdene Aged Care Home.
