Born in Hawera, 1945. Discusses childhood in Manaia, his early interest in drawing and painting, and his father's encouragement. Talks of studying towards a science degree at Cantebury University and working in television - becomes Presentation Director at TV3. Discusses moving back to Taranaki and finding work in dairy factories and some relief teaching positions at Spotswood College before leaving for the United Kingdom.
Discusses working in the United Kingdom and hitchiking around Europe - talks of visits to art galleries and the effect Van Gogh's paintings had on him. Talks about travelling to the United States and Canada - mentions artist Bernard Aris. Discusses the tense atmosphere in the United States at the time and the aggression he witnessed.
Describes returning to work in television upon return to New Zealand - discusses directing Country Calendar and the difficulties he experienced adjusting back into the local broadcasting structure. Mentions meeting his wife Rene in Christchurch. Recalls moving to Manganui then Tongaporutu - involved in the Paerore Road Esplanade Reserve preservation project. Talks about being a member of Taranaki Artists Co-Operative (TACO) - discusses his work with screen printing, TACO exhibitions and his early memories of Michael Smither. Mentions Ces Hill, Graham Kirk and Jamie Bull. Discusses his work with solar printing and producing greeting cards - mentions Dan Walden. Talks about portraiture, landscape and narrative painting - discusses his current work on the Red Poppies series.
