Description: Discusses early interest in writing and newspapers; education at Howick District High School where she battled over being allowed to study chemistry and maths; family background. Unable to do any tertiary training, she knocked on newspapers' doors until she got a job at the Herald on the women's pages; eventually she was allowed to work as a general reporter. Talks about special treatment she received as the only female reporter. Discusses travel to London where she worked for the British Council and was then Assistant Editor on Television Today (a weekly paper) which was aimed at actors. Moved back to New Zealand where she married and worked for Breckell and Nicholls who published trade magazines; moved to the Herald as the assistant women's editor; offered chance to edit a women's magazine called Thursday which covered social issues including sexuality. Discusses role of women and what that role should be, especially the role of mothers as workers; her involvement with TV3; discusses her own `media image'. Talks about his experiences as described in his autobiography: not being allowed to play with non-brethren children, becoming lonely, depressed and attempting suicide. Talks about being sent to Kingseat Hospital at age fifteen, after admitting he had homosexual feelings. Talks about the treatment for this and his depression involved electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) and how these experiences affected his life and work. Description: DVD containing a TV3 News item titled "Wahine presentation" of 5 minutes duration. Item records presentation of medals and citation to Jim Toulis, Colin Anthea, and Bill Bell at the home of Toulis in Nelson. Recorded to disc by Ross D Wearing, Promotion Media, Nelson. Charles Callis was was a student at Evans Bay Intermediate at the time of the disaster, and first cousin to Jim Toulis who was in his mid 20s. Jim Toulis, Bill Bell, and Colin Athea were the first civilians to set out to help rescue Wahine passengers/crew. Callis met Phil Bennett circa 2015, and initiated the creation of a medal for Jim Toulis, Bill Bell, and Colin Athea which was awarded to them at Jim's home in Nelson.
