Description

Interviews with 11 people who arrived and settled in New Zealand as refugees. Topics discussed include the interviewee's life when growing up in his or her country of origin; the outbreak of war, revolution or upheaval; the decision to flee and fleeing their homeland; the period of displacement prior to being accepted in New Zealand; acceptance for resettlement in New Zealand; experiences during the first few months or years in New Zealand. Interviewees are Abdi Bihi from Somalia; Robert Byer from Sudan; Thuten Kesang from Tibet; Ranka Margetic-Sosa from Bosnia and Herzegovina; Mina Moayyed, a member of the Baha'i faith from Iran; Marina Page from Lithuania; Father Aprem Pithyou, an Assyrian Christian from Iraq; Batsheva Reyn, a Russian Jew; Siraj Salarzi from Afghanistan; Alex Schiff, a Jewish refugee from Hungary; and Josef Zawada, a child refugee from Poland.
