Tamati Heawutu Kupenga discusses in detail the men who went from Hiruharama with the 28th Maori Battalion. Also talks about men from the district who went to World War I and to the war in South Africa.
Mentions the Kapohanga meeting house in Hiruharama, Te Poho-o-Te Wiwi kauta moving to Hiruharama, Tuotaina being used to build Nga Tamatoa, owner of Te Kaunoti and also talks about the VC hui at which he cooked and names the people in the kapa haka party at that hui.
Discusses other people from the district, including men who worked at Matahiia Station and fencers from the district who went to work at Te Araroa. Explains certain placenames in the district and the proverb uttered by Te Atau. Talks about Te Aowera marae previously being situated elsewhere and how it is the marae used for Ringatu services and notes that he is a bellringer for the Ringatu services.
