Describes being looked after by grandparents in Rangiora, North Canterbury, then moving to Wellington; strong, dynamic mother involved in the fashion industry; own education at St Marks school, New Zealand Friends' school, Wanganui, Queen Margaret College, Wellington, Victoria University (nearly completed a BA); then training at Post-Primary Teachers' College, Christchurch and teacher at Papanui High School.
Outlines move into radio, including Announcers Training Course and work for Radio 3ZB (Christchurch); work for John Blumsky on first radio talkback show in Christchurch; mentions important early influences including Ken Green, Marama Martin, Relda Familton, Jenny Goodwin.
Discusses move into television; work on 'News View', 'Today at One', 'Tonight Show' with Lindsay Perigo, but always felt uncomfortable on television; return to radio, working for National Radio.
Talks about scholarships offered to attend Harvard University to complete BA; back in New Zealand work as a feature writer for the Sunday Times and then worked for 2ZB; eventually back to National Radio; discusses the position of women in radio.
