Description

Rev Canon Rua Anderson details his whakapapa, names of the tupuna related to the Otewa Marae and surrounding areas, significant events that he attended in his youth and gives a descriptive history of the wharekai, Nga Awa, Nga Whenua and taniwha. Talks about his family, the flu epidemic and about the first and second marae.

Gives a very in depth description and history of the carvings on the Otewa Marae meeting house - Te Hokinga Mai o Te Wherowhero ki te Nehenehenui. Talks about a trip taken prior to the interview to Tauraroa, Ranginui, Rangitoto Range, Tarapikau, Nga Kohatu. Talks about the Turamoe mountain, the place of the eels, the home of Waiwaia the taniwha, the feud between Ngati Whakatere and Matakore and about Ringatu Te Kooti. Talks about his own church affiliation and relationship with church and about the Ringatu church and Ratana. gives Tapara family whakapapa. The tape also includes formal greetings, waiata and karakia.
