Margaret Shirley Walker (nee Peters) born Invercargill. Outlines family background - father severely wounded in World War I. Great grandfather came to New Zealand on the `Nelson' - imported Rio motor cars - developed models of petrol economisers, a gas generator - main interest being a gas combustion engine. Refers to buses in San Francisco running on rum with his gas combustion engine. Describes growing up in Invercargill and work experience at Invercargill Public Library and later for broadcasting on reception. Discusses: involvement with Motukarara Branch of WDFF; St Stephen's Anglican Church Young Wives Club; Tahuna Girl Guide Company, being Provincial Camp Advisor for 13 years; involvement with NCW - joined Social Welfare Standing Committee, on Mass Media Standing Committee (1983-1992) - Mentions Pam Sutton. Talks about UN Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. Other issues were: Homosexual Law Reform; changes with Human Birth Technology; Core Curriculum; unemployment and Social Welfare.
