The image originally accompanied a column by Judith Collins in the Sunday Star Times, 1 January 2015, entitled, 'Oil price drop is bad news', with the standfirst, "As our fourth largest export, oil brings in around $2.2 billion per year. We should be proud of this international industry." The cartoonist has provided two versions of the image, both depicting Australia and New Zealand, below a fuel gauge with the empty end of the gauge labelled as 'Exporter' and the full end labelled as 'Con$umer'. One version has a cloud of black oil in the shape of two faces, another places the oil on the water between the two countries.
