- Description
Under the caption 'Catching up with an old mate' a concussed-looking Prime Minister John Key with a bandaged head is commiserating on the phone to Whaleoil blogger Cameron Slater who was knocked out by cricketer Jesse Ryder in a celebrity boxing match. Key also refers to the Black Caps losing the Cricket World Cup final to Australia, and also admits to figuratively having a "couple of black eyes myself" in reference to having underestimated NZ First leader Winston Peters' potential to win the Northland by-election after Peters convincingly won the electorate from National. Earlier Key had said in the media Peters simply wanted to give the Government a "black eye" and was not interested in the people of Northland.
