Description

Collection of small format photographer's prints by Keith Woods, originally housed together with glass-plate and film negatives in quarter-plate size paper envelopes with typescript caption details and technical specifications.

Mainly images of Poul Gnatt and other New Zealand ballet dancers, in a range of ballet productions, and individual dancers, taken circa 1953-1965.

Includes a set of photographic prints of Gnatt dancing on sand dunes at Bethells Beach in Auckland, taken in 1954 by Keith Woods.

Dancers and other individuals featured in this collection include Dorothea Franchi (pianist), Gloria Young, Marion Newman, Ken Ling (stage manager), Rodney MacDonald, Rex Wilson, Sara Neil, Russell Kerr, Pamela Bishop-Williams, June Mason, Arthur Turnbull, and members of Gnatt's immediate family, Rigmor (his wife), and his sons Jan, Per and Tor Gnatt.

Ballet productions documented include, 'Let's Make a Ballet', 'Waltz in Vienna', 'Sonata', 'Gala Polonaise', 'Dream Visions', 'The Nutcracker', 'Spectre de la Rose', 'Popular Pastime', 'Coppelia', and 'Swan Lake'.

Locations and venues include Waiheke Island, Bethells Beach, Helensville, His Majesty's Theatre (Hamilton), Opera House (Wellington), Embassy Theatre (Hamilton), Rotorua, and at Gnatt's family home in Gribblehurst Road, Auckland.
