Cecilia (Pseudonym), 1920-2003, Denbigh (Pseudonym), 1920-2003

Musician. New Zealand composer, harpist and pianist. Used pseudonyms of "Cecilia" and "Denbigh". Studied at Auckland Teachers' College, at Auckland University, and at the Royal College of Music, London. Taught at Epsom Girls' Grammar School, and privately. Has worked with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and the Auckland Symphonia. Pianist and Music Director with the New Zealand Ballet Company 1953-1958. Daughter of Peter Rudolph Franchi (1891-1972) and Gertrude (née Walmesley; 1895-1966). Description: Collection of small format photographer's prints by Keith Woods, originally housed together with glass-plate and film negatives in quarter-plate size paper envelopes with typescript caption details and technical specifications. Mainly images of Poul Gnatt and other New Zealand ballet dancers, in a range of ballet productions, and individual dancers, taken circa 1953-1965. Includes a set of photographic prints of Gnatt dancing on sand dunes at Bethells Beach in Auckland, taken in 1954 by Keith Woods. Dancers and other individuals featured in this collection include Dorothea Franchi (pianist), Gloria Young, Marion Newman, Ken Ling (stage manager), Rodney MacDonald, Rex Wilson, Sara Neil, Russell Kerr, Pamela Bishop-Williams, June Mason, Arthur Turnbull, and members of Gnatt's immediate family, Rigmor (his wife), and his sons Jan, Per and Tor Gnatt.
