Under the heading 'The Potentate's New Hat', Prime Minister John Key adopts the pose of an autocratic ruler, saying "...and would someone puuhleeese remind the children of Northland that there are no free lunches." In the background slaves are shown working on a pyramid that is morphing into the Beehive, topped by the Eye of Providence from the American dollar bill. Refers to pre-by-election promises and the National Party's stance around the lunches in schools programme.
The cartoonist Tweeted: There are #NoFreeLunches. Or roads or bridges. #NorthlandByElection.
