On 6 August 2014 The Mana Party leader, Hone Harawira, buoyed by Kim Dotcom's donations, said that Labour Party's candidate, Kelvin Davis, in Te Tai Tokerau should consider standing for the National Party as Kelvin Davis was running a dirty-tricks campaign, against Labour's campaign focus and principles.
