Description

Two-sided poster shows on one side an artwork by Patrick Sullivan featuring Ra the sun god, two waka and two Maori flags. The other side shows a map of New Zealand and reminders of important dates: 1835 He Whakaputanga, 1840 Tiriti o Waitangi, 1948 Te Whakapuakitanga o te Ao mo nga Tika Tangata, 2007 Te Whakapuakitanga o te Runanga Whakakotahi i nga iwi o te Ao mo nga Tika o nga Iwi Taketake. Principles of tino rangatiratanga, mahinga tahi, nga rauemi Maori, rite tahi and tuakiri are highlighted.

The Human Rights Commission's website at http://www.hrc.co.nz/2013/07/03/celebrating-the-spirit-of-partnership-and-promise, states: "Sullivan's artwork features Ra (the Sun), the source of life, embraced by Ranginui and Papatuanuku, reflecting t embraced by Ranginui and Papatuanuku, reflecting the Treaty and Declaration's role in protecting the identity and inherent dignity of tangata whenua in Aotearoa. Ms Salzman's photographic collages, on the reverse, reflect the links between the Treaty and the human rights standards expressed in the the Declaration, drawing out the strongest themes including the partnership with Rangatira and ensuring equality for tangata whenua and provided turangawaewae (standing place) for tauiwi (settlers)".
