Shows a rowboat in the foreground with a folded-up sail lying the length of it. Fishing nets can be seen drying to the right of the picture. The view is probably looking north-west, with the Kaweka Ranges in the distance
Significant view of the harbour, being prior to the 1931 earthquake that raised the sea floor by 2.7 metres, with the Ahuriri Lagoon and tidal flats drained
Western Spit is now known as Westshore
