The leaders of the large insurance companies meet and decide on a strategy to oppose the Labour Party's proposal to set up a state-owned insurance company, KiwiAssure. (KiwiAssure was a proposal for a state-owned insurance company, launched at the Labour Party confence in November 2013.) The strategies include prompt payouts to policy holders, fast accurate assessments, payment of full value for losses and lower premiums for all. 'Why didn't we think of this earlier?' one insurer remarks.
The greedy attitude of the large insurance companies to their policy-holders came to a head after the Canterbury earthquakes. The Labour Party's proposal establish a state-owned insurance company to force the companies to take better care of their customers caused an immediate reaction by the Insurance Council. Whether they would reform in their attitude to their customers remained speculative.
