Cartoon depicts former Pike River Mine boss Peter Whittall emerging from the 'criminal charges shaft' clutching a $3.4 million dollar cheque. Beside him Business Development Minister Steven Joyce and Lawyer Stuart Grieve are celebrating that they had charges against Whitall dropped. In the background, the families of the dead miners remind us that their bodies are still in the mine. Accompanying note from cartoonist states "It seems that there will be no end to the sham surrounding the tragedy at Pike River. Radio NZ reports, 'Last October his lawyer, Stuart Grieve, offered $3.4 million for the families if the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment dropped the charges. The charges were dropped in December, and that amount of compensation was to be paid'. The rich and the poor, clearly, live in two different worlds."
