Under the caption 'In Russia it's easy to confuse the "P" words', President Putin, a giant bear on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, grasps a Greenpeace vessel and two of its crew. He shouts at them 'Pirates!'; they reply 'Protesters?'. Behind Putin are barrels of Arctic oil and a birdcage holding the punk group 'Pussy Riot'. In the distance is an off-shore oil rig.
Accompanying note from cartoonist states 'Russian authorities arrest the Arctic Sunrise's Greenpeace crew protesting about oil rig and Putin accuses them of piracy.'
On 13 September 2013 Greenpeace activists, including a New Zealander, on the ship Arctic Sunrise were arrested in the Pechora Sea by the Russian Coast Guard while witnessing oil-drilling and protesting at the Gazprom platform Prirazlomnaya. They were originally charged with Piracy, then later downgraded to hooliganism, before being dropped altogether following the passage of an amnesty law by the Russian government. The reference to the punk group Pussy Riot suggests that Greenpeace may suffer the same fate.
