Racing to the goal of winning the Hamilton City Mayoralty in the October local body elections are the candidates Julie Hardaker, in a car, and Ewan Wilson, in a biplane.
The mayoral contest in Hamilton was very close in October 2013. Julie Hardaker was known for her opposition to the costs of the hosting of the V8 car championships in Hamilton. Ewen Wilson rose to prominence with his Kiwi Air Transtasman airline in the early 1990s and advocated economic growth by securing international flights for Hamilton airport.
