Shows a school with the door handles too high for children, the desks and chairs out of proportion, the windows askew and the floors slanting. A pupil asks 'Please, Miss...Can I fit in?'. The caption states 'why waste your time designing schools on the needs of children when you, honestly, hate the stinking brats?'
Accompanying note from the cartoonist states 'It is moronic that schools are now being built in New Zealand with classrooms, doors, fittings, and even playground equipment that is unsuitable for children. Who does the Ministry think it's building schools for? Why has this aspect of education been degraded so much?'
On 25 September 2013 the Ministry of Education defended its processes for building new schools after the publication of a critical report. The independent review conducted for government ministers by the consultancy firm Beca said the ministry's new building process was performing poorly from start to finish.
