Folder comprises First World War letters written by Peter Carswell home to his sister Janet Crawford (nee Carswell) in New Zealand, one letter written by Carswell to his mother, one letter from B Draper to Janet Crawford, one letter from Duncan Menzies to George Crawford and a Mounted Division Christmas card from 1917.
Letters include description of training in Tauherenikau (Wairarapa); the boat trip to Egypt; battles he was involved with against the Turks in Palestine including Gaza, Magdhaba and Rafa; and names of friends from Maraekakaho.
