Under the caption 'Marine alert to all people hoping to make landfall in Australia:', Kevin Rudd is pictured saying 'Bugger off', while Tony Abbott says 'And ditto for me. We're not a suppository of all victims.'
Accompanying note from cartoonist states: 'Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott seem to be locked in a bidding war for the harshest policy regarding boat people arriving in Australian waters. Cartoon depicts PM Kevin Rudd and Opposition leader Tony Abbott. The word "suppository" is a reference to Abbott's gaffe where he used this word inadvertently.'
In the Australian election campaign of 2013 both parties had found that playing on the hostility and fear by the Australian public of refugees arriving by boat was a popular way to gather votes.
