Under the caption 'Keywi Saver', with the 'K' transformed into a fisherman hooking a house labelled 'Savings' above a crossed-out label 'Votes', the wording reads 'PM announces new package...', 'A cunning plan to double first home buyers be tweaking a savings scheme to combat the opposition's policies and ensure that this political hot potato dosen't derail the the PM's bid to continue as Leader of the House'.
In mid 2013, faced with the continuing housing shortage, the government introduced a subsidy financed from first home buyers' Kiwisaver accounts. This appeared to be more concerned with winning votes of those seeking a toehold in the property market rather than with the health of the Kiwisaver superannuation scheme.
