Under the caption 'Elections - Every baby's nightmare!' a screaming baby labelled 'Oz' is threatened with being kissed by the then Australian leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbot. The then Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, says 'Oy! Put down my baby, you stinking mongrel!'
Accompanying note from cartoonist states: 'Cartoon depicts Australian PM Kevin Rudd, a baby, and leader of the opposition Tony Abbott. It references several actual incidents in the current election campaign in Australia, and generally jokes about the tradition of politicians 'kissing babies' during a campaign.'
On 4 August 2013 the date of the Australian election date was announced. Both Prime Minister and and the leader of the opposition tried to outdo each other in their promises, platforms and stunts such as the traditional performance of kissing babies. Many thought the campaign before its start was already a race to ensnare the votes of the lowest common denominator of the Australian electorate.
