Captioned 'Nyet [No] more vodka' a barman announces that 'To show our distaste for the Kremlin's homophobia, no more Russian vodka will be sold in this bar.' Patrons show their reaction in various comments. On the placard announcing 'Happy Hour' is advertised a 'Live TV link-up of Pussy Riot performing their latest hit - Gay as Hell in the Gulag!' The lettering of the cartoon is in pseudo-cyrillic script.

Accompanying note from cartoonist states: 'Re the boycott of Russian vodka by bars in many countries where people oppose the Russian government's crackdown on gay rights.'

In the last week of July 2013, a campaign to boycott Russian vodka was launched in the United States and spread to other countries. The boycott was in protest at laws introduced by President Putin banning the promotion of 'non-traditional' values to children, criminalising expression of gay identity and calls for human rights for gays, forbidding gay pride events and harassing gay activists. The punk rock group Pussy Riot also suffered from a similar Russian oppression.
