- Description
A scene showing a large communal hut, or fale, on the beach front, beneath palm trees, in 1840. Another fale can be seen in the background. Two men can be seen beneath a large tree in the foreground, one sitting and perhaps sketching the fale in front of him, while the other, a naval officer, stands beside him. At the water's edge a number of natives can be seen, and in the harbour an expedition ship is anchored
