Description

Leader of the Labour Party, David Shearer, throws a sign which reads 'man ban' into a pile of rubbish. He thinks to himself, "I wonder if they had a particular man in mind." Refers to the Labour Party's plan to introduce a new rule which will allow electorates to restrict men from running for Parliament, in order to address the low representation of women in Parliament. Currently only 32 per cent of MPs are women, despite women comprising 51 per cent of the population. The plan, commonly referred to as the 'man ban' received significant criticism in the media, and was dropped. There has also been criticism of Shearer's leadership of the party in the media as well.
