Accompanying note from cartoonist states 'Today's "conscience vote" in parliament dishonours the word "conscience"'.
The Skycity Bill before Parliament, where the casino's gambling facilities expand in exchange for providing a convention centre in Auckland, was declared by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to be a 'conscience vote'. However the National government had already instructed its members to vote for the bill.
