Description

Two men shown in silhouette walk towards the New Zealand Parliament building, discussing the idea of having more women in Parliament, wondering if women are tough enough to be politicians, and commenting that "they'll keep the place a lot tidier." In the foreground stands a group of high ranking women politicians-- including Judith Collins and Paula Bennett of the National Party, Annette King of the Labour Party, and Metiria Turei of the Green Party-- all hold up guns, clubs, and spears, showing they are ready for battle. They overhear the sexist conversation in the background, and Judith Collins, Minister for Justice, holds a machine gun in her hands and says, "We're going to clean up around here alright!" Refers to the Labour Party's plan to introduce a new rule which will allow electorates to restrict men from running for Parliament, in order to address the low representation of women in Parliament. Currently only 32 per cent of MPs are women, despite women comprising 51 per cent of the population. Labour has also proposed the creation of a quota for the percentage of women MPs.
