Cartoonist states 'Labour's proposal to set "quotas" based on gender [read biological] features really makes one wonder where it will all end. In my cartoon, I imagine a voter visiting a 'trades fair' of political parties that are based on either biological or lifestyle or farfetched aspects'.
A proposal that Labour Party candidates be held to exact quotas of representation which could involve electorates seeking only women candidates for certain seats was considered and approved to go forward to the Labour Party Conference. in July 2013. This proposal, dubbed the 'Man Ban', was widely ridiculed as social engineering at its worst. Shearer's wavering on the issue did not help.
